I became a feminist because of this young woman - Malala.
She was shot by the Taliban for saying all young girls deserve an education.
This is something I still fight for, because while girls in Pakistan (where Malala is from) get access to education, the priority is still given to boys.
The type of feminism I see on tumblr - the manhating, the exclusion of trans people and general first world problems, is not the type of feminism I signed up for. I don’t agree with any of it. The attitudes on tumblr, and the screendumps on this page make me feel ashamed of being a feminist, because when I admit to being one, I automatically get associated with that type of feminism (I believe it’s called third wave feminism)
These women are complaining about first world problems - meanwhile 219 school girls are still being held hostage by the Taliban for wanting an education, a 12yr old girl was shot in the head for wanting the exact same thing. Women in Africa are being given anti-rape condoms, and just this weekend it was in the news about a girl who was gang raped and hung in the middle east, and lets not forget the genuine rape crisis in India. These are the issues feminism should be working to overcome.
and while I complained about first world problems - yes there are things we should be working on, like domestic abuse.
If these third wave feminists stopped baking cakes that say “I hate men” and writing uneducated, misandrist comments on tumblr and facebook, feminism could achieve some wonderful things.
But as it stands, I’m incredibly jaded by what feminism has become, and I’m quickly losing faith in the movement.
